Its late Afternoon, or early evening at #Karwar, and this is how the Sea appears, shiny and shimmering orange.

And a short verse I wrote:
"Men of Wisdom love the Mountains,
And men of Knowledge love the Sea!
In Karwar you will find both of these,
where Mountains stretch into the Sea,
And the Aqua marine color them Green!"

Those headed to Goa for New Year's Eve need not return home disappointed as there's a new beach destination for an alternative. Many tourists who could not get rooms at lodges in Goa have arrived at Karwar where lodges and resorts are now houseful till January 5. Most of the resorts and the lodges in Goa were reserved almost three months in advance by tourists who wanted to ring in the New Year here. This caught tourists from Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu off guard.

Sprinkle, squish between my toes, 
The smell of ocean to my nose.

Sorting the catch....

Sorting the good ones from the less good ones.... Good one will fetch more money and the small ones, will be left for the Birds...

We should all do what, in the long run, gives us joy, even if it is only picking grapes or sorting the laundry.

Tagore Beach Entrance

Nobel Laureate Poet Ravindranath Tagore's 150th birth anniversary will be celebrated at Karwar beach on Saturday. Tagore had visited Karwar when he was 21 years old, while his elder brother worked as a district judge in Karwar. 
Tagore was attracted by the beauty of Karwar beach and the nature of the area during his visit. Tagore then stayed with his brother in the judges' quarters.

There are references in his books that he was visiting Sadashivagad near Karwar by boat and also by walk and lunched with fishermen during the visit to their houses. In his book `Nature's Revenge,' he referred to Karwar and the natural beauty of the place. 
The District Administration hence named the beach after Tagore and his birth anniversary was celebrated at the beach.

Tranquil at the Tagore Beach, while Tsunami ravages elsewhere...

Its all calm and tranquil at the Tagore beach.... while a earthquake said to be the 5th largest in the world, sends 10 metre waves to the Northern cost of Japan....

Northern Japan has been swamped by a major tsunami - and the entire Pacific region is now on alert. It was caused by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck 130 kilometres off the eastern coast - sending a 4-metre waves...

Ways to Beat the Heat !! - 2

The heat and the humidity here in Karwar is unbearable, even in the early morning, just as the sun rises...

These dogs are a living proof...
No amount of dipping inthe sea waves will permanently take away the heat.
And the relief is just temporary.

Good News is that South West Monsoon will hit Kerala in a couple of days. Hope to see some rain before the end of next week...

Ways to Beat the Heat !!

As the Temperature Sours in Karwar, and Humidty Scales up, Nature provides these Buffaloes a nice Outlet to Cool off....

Never mind if this pool is now no longer used to watering the Dried-upPark on the Tagore Beach, it does serve these Mammals, and serves them too well...

You can see the Look of Contentment on their faces, as compared to the other people of Karwar who have gathered on the Tagore Beach in an attempt to cool off in the Sea Breeze.... 

Nature is very Impartial sometimes....

Hot-Air Baloon at Karwar Beach

The Capture-Earth Team had organised a HR Outbound Training for the Employees of Bosch and it was held at the Tagore Beach at Karwar as a Three-day Event, ending tomorrow. 

Though the Event was not publicized much, it became a Center of Attraction for the people of Karwar, who had come for a walk on the Beach.

People were watching the whole exercise of blowing the Baloon with Hot-Air from the Deputy Commissioner's Office Building, kids stopped pestering for Ice-cream, old folk were cleaning their glasses, the Baloon-sellers were temporarily out of business and had their quiet moments on the beach...

The traffic on the Highway had partially stopped....

But it was too windy for the Baloon to take off....

Karwar Beach Clean Up

About 286 people, from all walks of life, got together at Tagore Beach, Karwar, on this September 19th, at 8-00 AM for Cleaning Up the Tagore Beach, and took part in the International Coastal Clean Up Day, called for by the Ocean Conservancy . Org.

The participants were from local Schools and Colleges, viz.,

• St. Joseph's High School (National Cadet Corps' Units)
• Hindu High School
• Bapuji College (National Service Scheme Units)
• Shivaji College, Baad
• Marine Biology University
• Karavali Youth Adventure Club (R)
• Sri Krishna Sports Club, Sadashivgad
• Rotary Club Seaside, Karwar
• Karwar City Municipality, etc.

B. S. Pai Co-ordinated the event, with Infra support from the Karwar City Municipal President Ganapati Ulvekar and his Councillors/Staff.

Dr. V. N Nayak of the Marine Biology University gave instructions and sensitized the participants on Ocean Pollution.

The Clean Up event went on up-to noon, and the Sun God favored the participants by taking cover under the Clouds.

Ground Beneath the Lamp-post....

The Tagore Beach at Karwar, was subject to heavy erosion this time, due to the rising sea-levels.

The erosion took its toll on the Lamp Post, and took away the ground beneath the pole. How deep the pole was buried, is visible from the earth-mark visible on the concrete portion of the pole...
