Speed @ 60kmph
I have been using this Loyal-no-frills-machine since about 7 years and clocked 55,000+kms on this, with per litre average of 50kms. Beats a bike, in terms of economical usage, less maintenance, free from puncture-stress cos of the spare wheel, and easy to ride... Thought i would display this picture for the March Theme - Glass....

Mother and Child
Child of My Heart
From the moment that I knew about you,
I loved you.
For months I carried you under my heart.
Watching you grow,
And waiting for the day when I would finally meet you.
When they placed you in my arms,
I loved you even more.
I held you snugly to my breast and stared into your eyes with total amazement.
Then as you grew and went through life’s many stages,
My amazement grew to awe.
You are a part of me and yet you are not.
You are who you are.
And all that you have been, all that you are, all that you will be,
Makes me love you even more.
You are my child,
My legacy,
Through you I will live forever.
For as you grow and as your children and their children will grow,
You will each carry on a part of me.
Though I love you not for the immortality that you give me,
But for the child of my heart that you are.

Lonely
Loneliness
Is
An island
In
The middle
Of
A sea of people
R.R (aged 11)
Loneliness is part of being human.
It reminds us that we are not
Complete in ourselves.
David Runcorn
“We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone.
Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone.”
Orson Welles
“The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.”
“Pray that your loneliness may spur you into finding something to live for, great enough to die for.”
Dag Hammarskjold
Little do men perceive what solitude is, and how far it extendeth.
For a crowd is not company, and faces are but a gallery of pictures,
and talk but a tinkling cymbal, where there is no love.
Francis Bacon

Let the Sleeping Dogs Lie....
Which in another way put means leave old grudges die.
Do not harbour old grudges for as long as you live,
You may not forget but you sure can forgive........
- Francis Duggan
Clicked this picture on a cool morning, just after sunrise, near the Kali Backwaters at Sunkeri-Kadwad, in Karwar. These dogs were content to lie there, without bothering about me, even when i stepped close to them to click this picture, and they continued to lie there.... These dogs look the same, maybe of the same mother....

The Old House
By - Kate Wiley
Winter has come and the wind and the rain
Wash over the house in the glen.
It cradles itself as if it were cold
For no one still lives within.
The years have passed over it, leaving it aged
And empty, and lost, without heart,
With no one to live there, no one to care
And the leaves are piled up on the hearth.
If you stand in the doorway, you can feel
Soft music that hangs in the air,
Like the soul of the house that ever lives on
Though there’s no longer any to hear.
The door is now gone, the windows un-paned,
The wood on the roof has gone slack.
But it still lingers on, as if waiting for
The people it loved to come back.
The old house listens, and waits, and sings
As the wind blows in through the door
And the beat of the heart of the house still sounds
Like the tread of their feet on the floor.

Ocean of Forms - a poem by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore
by Rabindranath Tagore
I dive down into the depth of the ocean of forms,
hoping to gain the perfect pearl of the formless.
No more sailing from harbor to harbor with this my weather-beaten boat.
The days are long passed when my sport was to be tossed on waves.
And now I am eager to die into the deathless.
Into the audience hall by the fathomless abyss
where swells up the music of toneless strings
I shall take this harp of my life.
I shall tune it to the notes of forever,
and when it has sobbed out its last utterance,
lay down my silent harp at the feet of the silent.

Still Waters
by Kabir
I have been thinking of the difference between water
and the waves on it. Rising,
water's still water, falling back,
it is water, will you give me a hint
how to tell them apart?
Because someone has made up the word
"wave," do I have to distinguish it from water?
There is a Secret One inside us;
the planets in all the galaxies
pass through his hands like beads.
That is a string of beads one should look at with luminous eyes.

Kumbharwada Rice Fields
These are the Rice Fields of Kumbharwada, in the midst of the mountains forming the Western Ghats. As the land surface is slopy, the fields are cut into steppes, small soil barriers are raised at the slope of each field to stock in water, to help the Paddy grow.
The stucture in the middle of the fields serves as a watch-tower during the paddy-growing season, and also as a hay stack when the paddy is harvested.

A Siddhi Lady and her daughter in the Sunday market
The cheerful lady in this picture was also in Karwar, in the Sunday Vegetable market to sell home-grown plaintains, from Joida/Kumbharwada, approx 65 km from Karwar. This is a unique tribe to Karwar district, and are known as Siddhis.
The Siddhis of Karnataka (Kannada: ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸಿದ್ಧಿಗಳು) are a tribe of African descent that has made Karnataka their home for the last 400 years. There is a 50,000 strong Siddhi population across India, of which more than a third live in Karnataka. In Karnataka, they are concentrated around Yellapur, Haliyal, Ankola, Joida, Mundagod and Sirsi taluks of Uttara Kannada and in Khanapur of Belgaum and Kalagatgi of Dharwad district. Their language is a mixture of Siddi Konkani and Siddi Marathi. They also speak Kannada. Source
The origins of the Siddhis seems to be a disputed issue as per this Report
The Siddhis are the only Konkani speaking people of African origin. Stranded on the West Coast following a shipwreck some 700 years back, they were soon absorbed into the local culture. They speak a distinct dialect of Konkani and even today retain their phyiscal African features. Link
